Today is Thursday, the 4th day infra Octavam Epiphaniae Domini, and at Le Barroux the Mass of the Epiphany, Ecce advenit dominator Dominus, was celebrated. I will add the texts of whichever Mass is said at Saint-Eugène if it is other than this of the Epiphany. It strikes me again how simply asinine it is, not to have an actual in the Missale and in the Kalendarium Octave for this feast. There are no feasts, traditionally, in these eight days apart from a commemoration of the Martyr Pope Saint Hyginus and the Sunday. The eighth day could have been made 'the feast of the Baptism of Our Lord and the Octave of the Epiphany', if some fussing absolutely had to be done, and the feast of Saint Paul First Hermit and Confessor can have been made a commemoration just like Saint Hyginus if it had to be moved from the 15th. Happily, we can observe the Traditional Rite as best we can and ignore the Pian, Johannine, and Pauline innovations insofar as this is possible.
It is only this morning that it has occurred to me that I have the practical means of making a Kalendarium ad usum privatum which would allow me not to forget e.g. when the feast of Sainte Geneviève des Ardents is celebrated, or the observing of the traditional Octaves of Saint Thomas of Canterbury or Saint Edward the Confessor. Hmm.
Pater Thomas SJ celebrated Holy Mass at Saint-Eugène today, the Ecce advenit dominator Dominus (as expected, really; my understanding, limited as it surely is, is that he would happily ignore the post-1954 liturgical nonsense, if he could).
