Today is the feast of the Annunciation of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and the world's sovereign Lady; it is called 'the Annunciation of the Lord' in the Pauline Rite. This feast's proper date is March 25 but since that, this year, was Monday of Holy Week the feast was transferred to the first available day after Holy Week and the Paschal Octave. At Le Barroux, an Introit profession (I am resolved to reduce my descriptions of this to 'Introit procession'; have avoided it heretofore simply because at Le Barroux it is a real procession and not just the entry of the clergy as at e.g. the parish); the Lord Abbot is not pontificating.

M l'Abbé Gubitoso is celebrating Holy Mass today at Saint-Eugène. 

At Saint-Eugène, the hymn Ave maris Stella was sung at the entrance of the clergy in the version called 'des Pèlerinages', alternating by strophe with the version of Notre-Dame des Victoires.

At Saint-Eugène, the livret omits the sequence or prose Mittit ad Virginem of Peter Abelard that was sung yesterday at Vespers; presumably there is a reason why this isn't sung at Mass. Perhaps there is a formal distinction between prosa and sequentia that I've missed.

In his homily, Abbé Gubitoso greeted his confreres in choro; usually such clerics go unidentified. Biretta-wearers but not priests (no sign of maniples). It now occurs to me that I cannot recall to which institute M Gubitoso belongs... to the IBP; he was rector of their seminary, even. Was or is, although I have a hard time thinking that he would be so much at Saint-E. if he were still held that change at Chartres. 


At Saint-Eugène, Credo III was sung with the Et incarnatus est from the Missa syllabica of Jean de Bournonville (1585-1632).

At Saint-Eugène after Mass, as the clergy depart the sanctuary, the Regina cœli, jubila, a German hymn to the Virgin in Eastertide; the music is attributed to an 'R. Alberus (1569)' of whom I'm entirely ignorant. The only Alberi who appear in Wikipedia.de are an Erasmus Alberus (d 1553), and a Matthäus Alberus (d 1570). Regina coeli jubila is, however, attributed to Michael Praetorius at IMSLP.
