Sanctifica eos in veritate...

Today is the feast of the Chair of the Apostle Saint Peter at Rome in the Traditional Rite, with the commemoration of the Virgin Saint Prisca, Martyr. In the lackluster arrangement of Ioannes XXIII, it is simply the Thursday infra Hebdomadam IIam post Epiphaniam. But there was instituted, at some point in the early part of the 20th century, an observance, meant to tend to ecumenical cooperation and unity, ahem, called the 'Chair of Unity Octave' that was had between today and the 25th, that is the feast of the Conversion of the Apostle Saint Paul; something of this sort continues to be celebrated in the Pauline Rite. In any event, it is the explanation for the celebration, at Barroux, of the votive Mass 'for the unity of the Church'. I'm going to have to hunt about for that Mass, which I presume exists in the 1920 Missale Romanum in some form or another.

Eugene enjoyed a 'winter storm' over the weekend, at least until Tuesday night when the electricity was lost here-- here, from midnight until after three o'clock in the afternoon; Deo gratias, the temperature was, by that time, no longer in the teens but had risen to the low 30s. Still, I froze for a few hours, figuratively speaking of course, and there was no Internet access for this, or for the Martyrology, or for any purpose.

At Barroux the Mass was Salvos nos fac Domine Deus noster, which is called the 'Mass for the cure of schism' in the Traditional Rite, ahem; violet vestments. I'm going to guess that the text of the orations has been emended in the Pauline Rite, which is not the case at Barroux.

No idea which choice will be made at Saint-Eugène. I must now go to bathe et cetera, hoping that whatever diminution of the water temperature happened due to the power outage has been repaired in these last 16 hours or so; errands, errands-- I haven't been out of the house since Sunday morning, to check Saturday's mail (the city bus has been out of service since Saturday evening, because of the 'winter storm', and I couldn't get downtown to Holy Mass, tsk).

Pater Thomas SJ is celebrating Holy Mass at Saint-E.; I missed the Introit and collect and... everything before his homily but he is vested in red and the Offertory was Diffusa est in labiis tuis so am going to presume that he is saying the Mass of the Holy Virgin, Me exspectaverunt peccatores.

Pater Thomas is clever: he said the Mass of Saint Prisca and then commemorated (despite the 1960s nonsense) the feast of the Chair of Saint Peter at Rome.

Were it not so late in the morning I would put Me expectaverunt peccatores and then Statuit ei Dominus testamentum pacis (of the Chair of the Holy Apostle at Rome) both here, too, but, eh, no.

Introitus. Ps. 105, 47. Ps. ibid., 1.
Confitémini Dómino, quoniam bonus: quóniam in sǽculum misericórdia ejus. ℣. Glória Patri.

Kyrie.

Oratio. Deus, qui errata córrigis, et dispérsa cóngregas, et congregáta consérvas: quǽsumus, super pópulum christiánum tuæ uniónis grátiam cleménter infúnde; ut, divisióne rejécta, vero pastóri Ecclésiæ tuæ se úniens, tibi digne váleat famulári. Per Dóminum.

At Barroux, the commemoration of the Holy Virgin was made.

Oratio.

℣. Fiat pax in virtúte tua: et abundántia in túrribus tuis.

Allelúja, allelúja. ℣. Ps. 147, 12. Lauda, Jerúsalem, Dóminum: lauda Deum tuum, Sion. Allelúja.

✠ Sequéntia sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem.
Joann.
Sanctífica eos in veritáte. Sermo tuus véritas est. Sicut tu me misísti in mundum, et ego misi eos in mundum.

Offertorium. Rom. 15, 5-6. Det vobis Deus idípsum sápere in altérutrum: ut unánimes uno ore honorificétis Deum nostrum.

Secreta. Múnera hæc pro unióne pópuli christiáni tibi, Dómine, oblata sanctífica: per quæ unitátis et pacis in Ecclésia tua nobis dona concédas. Per Dóminum.

de Sancta Prisca:

Secreta. Hæc hóstia, quǽsumus, Dómine, quam Sanctórum tuórum natalítia recenséntes offérimus, et víncula nostræ pravitátis absólvat, et tuæ nobis misericórdiæ dona concíliet. Per Dóminum.

Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei.

Communio. 1. Cor. 10, 17. Unus

Postcommunio. Hæc tua, Dómine, sumpta sacra commúnio: sicut fidélium in te uniónem præsígnat; sic in tua Ecclésia unitátis, quǽ sumus, operétur efféctum. Per Dóminum.

de Sancta Prisca:

Postcommunio. Quǽsumus, Dómine, salutáribus repléti mystériis: ut, cujus sollémnia celebrámus, ejus oratiónibus adjuvémur. Per Dóminum.
