Statio ad S.Mariam majorem


Today is the day quam fecit Dominus, Solemnitas solemnitatum, et Pascha nostrum: a blessed and peaceful Easter to any who might read here. 

Holy Mass at Saint-Eugène (the libellum is here) will begin with the Pavane (trumpets! trombones!) of Jean-Baptiste de Lully and the Vidi aquam of Louis-Lazare Perruchot (1852-1931). 





The troped Introit (c 10th century via the 13th century books of Paris) follows. The polyphonic verses are by Claudin de Sermisy (1490-1562) This appears to be the first year the Schola has chanted this troped Introit.

The ordinarium of the Mass (the Kyrie, Gloria, etc, with the exception of the Credo) is André Campra's Mass Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam. The Credo is from Henry du Mont's Messe royale du Ier ton.


Oratio. Deus, qui hodiérna die per Unigénitum tuum æternitátis nobis áditum, devícta morte, reserásti: vota nostra, quæ præveniéndo aspíras, étiam adjuvándo proséquere. Per eúndem Dóminum.

The Schola sang also the version of Ludovico Grossi da Viadana (1564-1627).

The Schola sang the version of Mons Jehan Revert (1920-2015), maître de chapelle émérite of Notre-Dame de Paris. There is a special Gospel tone for today and alas the poor deacon is not quite up to it. This would be when I myself would choose to abandon the special tone but, eh: we hear what he is chanting. It isn't a terrible thing to be reminded amidst the splendor that even on this day of days the Cross remains. The relief in his voice when he began the repetition of the lesson in French was almost palpable, ha.

At the Communion, César Franck's motet for Easter, Dextera Domini-- beautiful indeed. 

Postcommunio. Spíritum nobis, Dómine, tuæ caritátis infúnde: ut, quos sacraméntis paschálibus satiásti, tua fácias pietáte concordes. Per Dóminum . . . in unitáte ejusdem.




After that splendid Mass, I'll go out for the first walk of the day; will see for how much of it the rain holds off. It's likely that there will be flooding in parts of Oregon due to the sustained rains of these past several days. I know that when I took the week's garbage in its trash bins out Thursday evening my feet sunk perceptibly into the sodden lawn.





Am following the Stational Vespers at Saint-E. The Victimae paschali laudes is now concluded, and the antiphon Jesum quem quaeritis of the first Magnificat is being sung. The libellum is here

The antiphon In die resurrectionis meae is sung whilst the procession goes to the baptismal font, followed by Psalm 112 with its proper antiphons, Christus resurgens ex mortuis and Dicant nunc Judaei.  





The antiphon of the second Magnificat, at the Font, is Euntes in mundum docete omnes gentes, baptizantes eos, alleluia, in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti, alleluia.

I didn't prepare here for Vespers and Benediction so am going to attend, without the distraction of trying to keep up noting this or that.
