But a beautiful Dawn and clear skies; 25 degrees F. It is the feast of Saint Albert the Great in the 1960 Kalendarium of Ioannes XXIII but also the feast of Saint Eugene-- the solemn feast will be celebrated on Sunday, of course-- and I'm wondering if it will be commemorated. We shall see in a couple of hours. My effusion on Twitter re Saint Eugène:
Natális sancti Eugénii, Epíscopi Toletáni et Mártyris; qui fuit beáti Dionýsii Areopagítæ discípulus, et in território Parisiénsi, consummáto martýrii cursu, beátæ passiónis corónam percépit a Dómino. Ipsíus autem corpus Tolétum, in Hispánia, póstea fuit translátum. 1/4
That is the #MartyrologiumRomanum as it was in 1960. The 2004 edition does not mention Saint Eugene at Paris but does Saint Eugene at Toledo on November 13 ('he devoted himself to the cultivation of the Sacred Liturgy'). 2/4
The French Bishops' website Nominis.cef.fr names today's Saint Eugène, Martyr, of the 3rd c. as the object of local cult, citing the website of Saint-Eugène-Sainte-Cécile parish which, however, assures us that Eugene came to the region of Paris in the 6th c. Hmm. 3/4
Incontrovertible is that Saint Eugene was martyred at Deuil-la-Barre, at Lac Marchais, in the northern reaches of Paris. In time he became so far confused with one of the Toledan bishops Eugene (E. II?) that it became opportune to send a large part of his relics to Toledo. 4/4
I must attend to a household chore or two, and make my breakfast toast and coffee. I very much appreciate that the Lacus Mercasii has, to this day, a reddish cast to it, of course because of Saint Eugene's spilled blood.
M le Curé is saying the Mass Statuit, ha; of course at Saint-E. the Mass of Saint Eugene takes precedence before Saint Albert's-- why that didn't occur to me, who knows. The libellum from the Sunday celebration of the feast last year is here.
