The 3rd of October; some clouds in the sky but generally a clear if chilly early morning. Will confess, as embarrassing as it is, that I was surprised yesterday morning when I first went out that the waning Moon seemed not to be closer to the western horizon as I thought it ought to be-- why I noticed this 'phenomenon' yesterday rather than, say, two mornings ago or twenty years ago, who knows: the Moon rises earlier each morning, I guess, as it performs its circuit, eh. Ought to attend to the sky-map every day for a month to try to correct my evidently native misperceptions, tsk.
In my very weak defence, I do know that it rises in the East which simple fact is probably not common knowledge amongst the children who seem not to know where Japan is or Greece on a map or what the famous 'three branches of government' are-- not that this redounds to any great honor on my part of course; it's indefensible to be so ignorant. I remind myself of Frau... I can't think of her name; the character in Mann's The Magic Mountain given to such horrible malapropisms.
The Mass is Salus populi ego sum; I did not rise at 0130 for Holy Mass streamed from Saint-Eugène so will turn that on after Prime and the Radio Courtoisie program that Henri de Villiers hosts, Liturgie et Musique Sacrée, beginning at 0600. In the back of my mind, I also know that a program devoted to the plainchant for the Sunday etc is broadcast and/or streamed before Villiers's; I've intended to listen to that too but haven't arranged my morning to do so. If I break down and give them money I can listen to the recorded version on demand but can't really afford to do that, tsk.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Ephésios. Ephes. 4, 23-28.
Graduale. Ps. 140, 2. Dirigátur orátio mea, sicut incénsum in conspéctu tuo, Dómine. ℣. Elevatio mánuum meárum sacrifícium vespertínum.

✠ Sequéntia sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum. Matth. 22, 1-14. At ille obmútuit. Tunc dixit rex minístris: Ligátis mánibus et pédibus ejus, míttite eum in ténebras exterióres: ibi erit fletus et stridor déntium. Multi enim sunt vocáti, pauci vero elécti.
Saint Gregory the Great, in his Homily at Matins:
Secreta. Hæc múnera, quǽsumus, Dómine, quæ óculis tuæ majestátis offérimus, salutária nobis esse concéde. Per Dóminum.
Communio. Ps. 118,4-5. Tu mandásti mandáta tua custodíri nimis: útinam dirigántur viæ meæ, ad custodiéndas justificatiónes tuas.
Postcommunio. Tua nos, Dómine, medicinális operátio, et a nostris perversitátibus cleménter expédiat, et tuis semper fáciat inhærére mandátis. Per Dóminum.
