For the record...

Madame Birthe Lejeune was called from this life today: requiescat in pace. Reunited, we hope and pray, with her late husband, the Servant of God Jérôme Lejeune, we can count on their powerful intercession at the Throne of Grace.

Nothing is as revealing of the moral and intellectual decadence of the West as the effective marginalization suffered by Professor Lejeune: acclaimed for his great work in the 60s, at the end of his life he was a 'Catholic fanatic' relegated to society's polite silence. Sed confidite: ego vici mundum.

Wednesday, 13 May. The Requiem was celebrated yesterday at Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois; Mons Aupetit preached the homily.

Qui est contre la vie ? Qui est contre l’amour ? Satan, qui défigure l’amour dans les cœurs. C’est pourquoi ils ont été attaqués par des gens qui se réfugiaient derrière de fausses compassions afin de masquer leur lâcheté et leur veulerie. Satan déteste la vie. Toute la culture de mort, de l’avortement à l’euthanasie en passant par la destruction d’embryons surnuméraires et la réduction embryonnaire, est son œuvre dans des cœurs aveuglés par un monde qui ne sait plus voir la beauté de toute vie. Dieu pourtant nous avait donné accès à l’arbre de vie dès le commencement, quand nous vivions dans son intimité. Il insiste ensuite en renouvelant l’alliance avec Moïse : «Voilà, je mets devant toi la vie et la mort. Choisis donc la vie !» (Dt 30,19). Qu’il est dur d’être désavoué par ses amis, par ceux qui devraient vous soutenir. A l’intérieur même de l’Église, certains aveuglés par une idéologie mortifère ou par la peur du monde ont combattu avec une incroyable violence ceux qui était porteurs de l’amour et de la vie au nom du Seigneur.

... Who is against life? Who is opposed to love? It is Satan who disfigures love in the hearts of men. This is why [Mme and Prof Lejeune] were attacked by people who took refuge behind false compassions in order to hide their baseness and spinlessness. Satan detests life. The whole culture of death, from abortion to euthanasia to the destruction of supernumerary embryos and embryonic reduction, is his work in hearts blinded by a world that no longer knows how to see the beauty of all life. Yet God had given us access to the Tree of Life from the beginning, when we lived in intimacy with Him. He then insists, renewing the covenant with Moses: "Behold, I set life and death before you. Choose life!" (Deut 30:19). How hard it is to be disowned by your friends, by those who should support you. Within the Church itself, some people blinded by a deathly ideology or by fear of the world have fought with incredible violence against these who were bearers of love and life in the name of the Lord....
